Still Riding…

March 9th, 2009

Yes, I’m still riding to work but moved my super interesting blog musings over to

Re-Velo.com

Check it out.

Lovely day to ride…even to work.

February 10th, 2009

Such a great day today. I hope everyone had a chance to ride their bike.

i was seriously huffing and puffing. Cure? More cycling, less ice cream. Or just more cycling.

I commuted by bike today!

December 26th, 2008

Unbelievable, eh? Yikes. I am officially a fair-weather bicyclist for sure now.

Beautiful day. It was really windy and wet (just on the ground – no rain) but very nice.

Note to self: Use fenders when the pavement is very wet.  I did great till I went sailing down the hill on 91st from Lamar to Glenwood. That’s when I got my first taste of road salt and mud. Mmmm. Good! And no harmful chemicals in THAT, I’m sure.

Yes, I had to work today. I get a huge one day off for xmas and one day off for new years. Pinch me, I’m dreaming!

Full day of learning about adwords, keywords, SEO, and breaking my mac. Not sure what I did. I installed a security update and then everything went to hell. The PC still works so I’m not losing any time, but I have to go to another computer if any of our customers call and want order status or anything else. BUT, the wacky PC doesn’t recognize my camera so I can’t upload my bike mileage photo. Rats!

So, I still have my ride home to do but I’ll have a really nice tailwind and my awesome MiNewt lite guiding me to my abode.

I hope everyone had a fun xmas. I didn’t really do anything but be cranky. I think my problem was that I didn’t drink any adult beverages. I wasn’t filled with the xmas “spirit.”

Enjoy the warm day. It’s gonna turn cold tomorrow. My dog and my boyfriend are meeting me on my way home to ride (and run, in Luke’s case) with me.

later on…

All this snow….

December 17th, 2008

…is making me drive my car. I wanted to ride last nite when I got home but got home late…and it was pretty slippery. I’m hoping for tonite.

Brrr…it’s cold

December 10th, 2008

I wussed yesterday and today and drove my car….I’m hoping to be back on the bike tomorrow though. It was a little slippery on Lamar today. No real problems tho.

Here’s a cool thing I found…

http://www.hymini.com/html/HYmini.html

It looks like for $50 and and extra $9 for a bike holder, you could be a rolling iPod charger! I could charge my phone on the way to work!
I wonder if it works below freezing?
I also changed my header to blue to simulate the wintery conditions….oh well…my heart was in the right place.

December riding…

December 8th, 2008

…hasn’t been so bad. I rode last night with the boyfriend on my mountain bike. He was teaching me how to balance on my bike so I’ll be more confident. (We used the new bridge at Mission Road and SMP. Won’t be able to do that much longer. They are almost done with the bridge. I heard that they could have put a trail over to Mission along the creek but didn’t want to spend the money. Sad. God forbid we walk or ride bikes. Try to walk-or bike-along SMP over I-35. I dare you. Or on SMP south of Stroud’s. I could go on…)

I fell twice…

ouch.

But, I guess I’m more confident now. The second time I fell was on my driveway. I keep messing up when trying to get onto a drive or sidewalk from grass. You can’t ride parallel to it and the try to get up on it. Come at if from an angle. Yikes. I know better.

Rode to work today. Each way I turned was into a headwind. It wasn’t that cold though. I’ll ride home tonite if it isn’t raining too hard. I have my raincoat and plastic bags ready.

I think I’m grouchy about biking in KC cuz I just got back from Portland, OR. Paradise for bike riders.

My odometer is 591 today. I may get to 600 tonite but it will probably be tomorrow if I can ride.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 27th, 2008

I had to work today but that let me get in a nice couple of bike rides to and from work. I also planted some basil that you get at the grocery store that still has the roots on it. I grew some all summer and they were HUGE. The frost finally got ‘em so I’m growing some on our new deck under plastic. I’m hoping to grow outside year-round. I’ll get a heat mat and some insulation and hope for the best! My sweetie pie is making dinner for me tonite. He’s wonderful. Have a great day everybody and get out and ride your bike!

Back from Mecca – Portland, OR

November 24th, 2008

I was on vacay last week. I visited friends in Portland. Sigh….it is bike nirvana. I only got to ride one day. but, it was swell. I crossed a bridge over the WilAMette River. It’s WiLAMite dammit. That’s how i learned to pronounce it. Bike lanes everywhere, bicyclists everywhere. Lovely. Didn’t rain once either. I was there for 7 days.

I went to several bike shops. Even got to hold a Calfee Bamboo frame! Lovely…

I bought a new NiteRider mini headlight for $70 at a swap meet. They retail for $130. It’s barely used. I can’t wait to use it on my bike. I had to drive today cuz my sweetheart is sick and I took him to the doctor and to get medicine and needed to get in and home as soon as I could.

If you love bikes, you need to visit Portland. I rode mass transit – train and streetcar – to my friend’s shop in Portland. Physical Element. Check it out if you are ever there. Portland is what KC COULD be if we had any visionary leaders. Tons of ways to get around without a car. Sad we can’t get light rail and bike lanes here. Ridiculous really. Maybe gas will go to $10 a gallon and we would consider it.

Got to see an amazing ‘cross race on the 16th. I took pics for my photo class. I’ll post some on Flickr when I get a free hour.

I’m hoping to ride tomorrow.

We missed Cranksgiving yesterday. I didn’t realize the date had arrived. I won a helmet, some bikes bells, etc, and had a blast last year. Mark was sick anyway and it’s no fun without him. Next year!

522 Miles

November 5th, 2008

Yes, as of now, I’m at 522. I’m not sure when the “challenge” ends but Mary wins, no doubt with her superior blogging – both in number and quality of posts – and miles.

What happened to the male winners is anyone’s guess. It’s disappointing cuz I know many other bicyclists out there who would have  blogged and ridden a ton with their new bicycles. Oh well.

I’m still at work and debating whether to call the boyfriend and have him pick me up or brave the rain. It’s really the thunder that worries me.

It was quite the adventure the last 2 days with the wind. I got attacked by fierce dry leaves making their way from the trees to the gutters.

I took another pic of my branchless beauty but my camera battery died so i can’t download it onto my computer. Alas my 3 faithful readers, you shall have to wait for your favorite tree shot.

I’m hoping for brighter days now that Mr. Obama in my new president. We can all use brighter days, I’m thinking. Especially with the end of daylight savings…

Butts In the News

Harness the power of your butt!!

…at least conceptually.
